We’ve Got Husqvarna Touch Up Paint
Husqvarna is a Swedish company founded in 1689. Far from manufacturing motorcycles, the company was producing barrels and muskets for the King’s army. It is not until 1903 that the factory assembled its first motorcycle from one of their bicycle and an imported engine. It took the company until 1918 to carry out the production of a motorcycle completely in-house.
With their bikes, Husqvarna participated in cross-country and long distance racing appearances. Once the company started assembling their own engines in a dedicated plant, their first design was a four stroke v-twin engine similar to that of the American constructors Harley-Davidson and Indian. Despite the fact that the company made a few models for street use, Husqvarna became mostly renowned for their enduro and motocross bikes.
During the 60’s and 70’s, the brand’s dominance over cross-country competitions is illustrated by their 14 wins at the motocross World Championships and 24 wins in the enduro World Championships. These feats were made possible due to the lightweight two-strokes engine that completely dethroned the old British four-stroke ones.
In 1987, the Swedish enterprise was acquired by the Italian Cagiva, who are also the producers of MV Agusta. The entire production line was then moved to Italy, but they kept the focus of the machines on country riding. This was not the last time that the brand would change hands as in 2007 it was the German’s BMW that took possession of the “Huskies”. During their control of the brand, BMW kept Husqvarna as an effectively separate entity and did not relocate the production lines.
Very recently, it was time for the Austrians at KTM to purchase the company from BMW. This time the production line did move to reside in the new owners’ country of residence, Austria. The new factory started the assembly of the Husqvarna motorcycles in 2013.
