Professional Waterborne Primer

A 1K waterborne primer-surfacer that bonds to bare metal, e-coat, fiberglass, body filler, and plastic. Provides anti-corrosion protection and a uniform foundation for color adhesion. Pre-reduced and ready to spray. Key Specs:
  • Fluid Tip: 1.4 – 1.8 mm
  • HVLP Pressure: 10 PSI at the cap
  • Compliant Gun Pressure: 29 – 40 PSI at the gun
  • Coats: 3 – 5 wet coats
  • Film Build: 0.8 – 1.0 mil per coat
  • Flash Between Coats: 5 – 10 minutes (until surface dries to a matte finish)
  • Dry to Sand: Approximately 30 minutes after final coat
Note: Minimum dry film thickness over bare metal should be approximately 2 mils after sanding. If sanded primer stands more than 24 hours before top coating, lightly scuff sand and re-clean before applying color. Clean spray equipment immediately after use with a Waterborne Gun Cleaner.

For metallic and pearl colors: after applying standard coats, dial air pressure down to half and apply a final light effect coat to eliminate mottling and even out the flake pattern. Note: If colorcoat has dried for more than 24 hours before clearing, apply one additional colorcoat first. Temperature, humidity, air movement, and film build all affect dry times.

Professional 2K High-Solids Clearcoat

A two-part, high-solids clearcoat engineered for a premium glass-like finish with exceptional gloss, UV resistance, and image clarity. Compatible with both solvent and waterborne basecoats. Comes with one can of clearcoat and one can of catalyst — mix using the included ratio. Key Specs:
  • Fluid Tip: 1.2 – 1.4 mm
  • Spray Pressure (HVLP): 29 PSI
  • Mixing Ratio: 2:1 (clearcoat to catalyst)
  • Pot Life After Mixing: 2 – 3 hours
  • Coats: 2 – 3 coats
  • Flash Between Coats: 5 – 10 minutes
  • Tack-Free at 78°F: 20 – 30 minutes
  • Through Dry at 78°F: 10 – 12 hours
  • Ready to Polish: Approximately 1 hour after cool-down from bake cycle
For dirt removal, lightly denib with P1500 sandpaper before compounding and polishing.

What You'll Need Before You Order

Professional paint sizes are not suitable for brush, pen, or aerosol application. Before ordering, make sure you have the following:

A Spray Gun

All three professional products require an HVLP or compliant spray gun. Fluid tip size requirements vary by product — see each tech sheet for specifics.

Proper PPE and Ventilation

Waterborne colorcoat and primer require at minimum an organic vapor respirator. The 2K Clearcoat requires an isocyanate-rated respirator or supplied-air system, plus chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection. Always spray in a properly ventilated area or paint booth.

Surface Preparation

Proper prep is critical to professional results. Each substrate — bare metal, e-coat, aluminum, fiberglass, and body filler — has specific sanding and cleaning requirements. Follow the primer tech sheet before applying any product.

A Controlled Environment

All specified drying and flash times are measured at 70 – 78°F. High humidity, low temperature, or poor air movement will extend dry times. Best results come with increased temperature, good airflow, and minimal film build per coat.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need to reduce or thin the professional colorcoat or primer before spraying?

    Both the Professional Colorcoat and the Professional Primer are pre-reduced and ready to spray out of the can. Simply hand stir thoroughly before application. Do not add additional reducer — doing so will affect adhesion and finish quality.

  • How do I mix the professional 2K clearcoat?

    The 2K Clearcoat uses a 2:1 ratio — two parts clearcoat to one part catalyst. Both components are included with your order. Once mixed, pot life is 2 – 3 hours, so only mix what you can spray within that window.

  • How long before I can apply clearcoat over the colorcoat?

    Wait at least 30 minutes after the final colorcoat, or until the surface dries to a matte finish. The maximum recoat window is 48 hours. If the colorcoat has been sitting for 24 hours or more, apply one additional colorcoat before clearing.

  • How do I handle metallic and pearl colors?

    Apply your standard coats at normal spray pressure, then reduce air pressure to roughly half for a final light effect coat. This eliminates mottling and evens out the metallic or pearl pattern. Allow the final coat to flash 20 – 30 minutes before applying clearcoat.

  • When can I polish after applying clearcoat?

    The clearcoat is through dry at 78°F in approximately 10 – 12 hours. It is ready to polish about 1 hour after the surface cools to ambient temperature following a bake cycle. For dirt nibs, lightly denib with P1500 sandpaper before compounding.

  • What should I use to clean my spray gun after spraying waterborne paint?

    Clean all spray equipment immediately after use with a dedicated Waterborne Gun Cleaner. Do not use standard solvent-based cleaners — they are not formulated for waterborne systems and can leave residue that affects future applications.

  • Who should use professional paint sizes?
