Atlas Blue Metallic
Ford’s Atlas Blue Metallic
We’ve had a lot of fun talking about all different shades of the color gray here at TouchUpDirect. But perhaps it’s time to dive deep into a brand new color. Meet the Atlas Blue Metallic, Ford’s absolutely gorgeous paint that’s captivating drivers everywhere. Known colloquially as the Atlas Blue, this shade has made its way on to a bevy of Ford’s best vehicles. Today, we’re going to look at its humble beginnings, amazing color, and find out the best way to keep it in top shape.
A Brief History of Atlas Blue
The Atlas Blue was introduced by the Ford Motor Company in 2020. The color made its grand debut on the Edge and Explorer models. It joined an intimidating and vaunted collection of Ford Blue colors that included the sensibly named Blue Metallic, Velocity Blue Metallic, Blue Jeans Metallic, Lightning Blue Metallic, Blue Candy Tricoat, and the Ford Performance Blue Metallic. But in just three years the Atlas Blue Metallic has managed to find itself on Ford brand vehicles of all shapes and sizes. In 2023, Atlas Blue can be found on the Bronco Sport, the Edge, the Escape, the Explorer, the F-150, the F-250, the Super Duty, the F-350 Super Duty, the F-450 Super Duty, the Maverick, and the Mustang. But what makes this color so alluring?
What is Atlas Blue?
More vibrant than Ford’s Stone Blue Metallic and darker than their Velocity Blue color, the Atlas Blue Metallic is a truly unique shade. The metallic elements in the paint give the color a gorgeous effect. Atlas Blue drivers describe a color that changes in different light, going from sapphire to black. Many of them mention how the car immediately brightens once the sunlight hits the paint. Ford owners with an Atlas Blue paint job will have to be a little more vigilant with cleaning. Due to its shade, the Atlas Blue Metallic shows dirt much easier than other colors. Luckily, that same color is also great when it comes to scratches. Atlas Blue does a good job of those nasty little scars your car gets from being out in the world. But what’s better than a well hidden scratch? How about no scratch at all?
Protecting and Touching Up Your Atlas Blue
If you’ve already made the decision to purchase the Atlas Blue, let’s take a look at how to protect your car’s coat and how to fix it up when it’s been scratched. First, make sure that you set a cleaning schedule to keep your vehicle pristine. We’ve already talked about how the dirt shows up more on Atlas Blue, but cleaning your car regularly can also prevent rust and corrosion from occurring. Don’t forget your car’s interior during your deep clean! You should also take steps to protect your vehicle from the harsh rays of the sun. Exposure can fade your paint into something dull, a true tragedy when you have a color as vibrant as the Atlas Blue.
What do you do if a mysterious little scratch appears on your vehicle? You could go to a garage and get it taken out for a steep price. Or you could simply use the DIY method of touch up paint. Let’s walk through the process. To make sure that you get a perfect color match, first test your paint on a test card. Make sure to test the Clearcoat as well so you know exactly what your colors will look like. For best results, prep the surface of your vehicle by washing the entire thing with soap and water to get rid of contaminants. If the damaged area of your car has deep cracks, scratches, or gouges, use a spot putty filler to plug those holes. Lay down the Primer first. This will allow the paint to stick to the surface of the car. Apply 2 to 3 coats evenly over the damaged area. Allow it to dry for 15 to 20 minutes before adding the Colorcoat. The Colorcoat is the actual color you see on your vehicle. Again, apply 2 to 3 even coats before allowing it to dry. Clearcoat is the final step here. In addition to giving your coat a glossy shine, this layer protects your paint from the sun and everyday contaminants.
So now you know about one of Ford’s fastest rising blue colors, Atlas Blue Metallic. With its gorgeous color and metallic effect, Atlas Blue is literally a shining example of automotive paint excellence. Knock on wood but we hope that his color continues its meteoric rise as one of Ford’s most popular colors.
